Das Amphi Festival ist ein seit 2005 stattfindendes Musikfestival, das mit seinem breit gefächerten Programm ein heterogenes Publikum, darunter vor allem Anhänger der Alternative- und Schwarzen Szene, anspricht.

Das erste Amphi Festival fand im namensgebenden Amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen statt, seit 2006 ist der Tanzbrunnen in Köln Veranstaltungsort des zweitägigen Festivals. An zwei Tagen finden auf einer überdachten Open-Air-Bühne sowie einer Bühne im Theater Auftritte mehrerer Bands statt. Seit 2009 wird das Theater nur noch für Film- und DVD-Vorführungen von Bands und als Disko genutzt. Die Funktion der Indoorbühne übernahm die Rheinparkhalle. Das Spektrum auftretender Künstler umfasst sowohl elektronische Spielarten wie Elektro und Future Pop als auch Rockmusik wie Neue Deutsche Härte oder Mittelalterrock.

The M'era Luna Festival is an alternative/dark music festival. It annually takes place in Hildesheim, Germany on the second weekend of every August. The show is held at Flugplatz Hildesheim-Drispenstedt, a former British Army airbase. The M'era Luna includes camping facilities and has two stages; one, a large rock festival style structure, erected for the show each year and the other, a former aircraft hangar. There have been some complaints about the acoustics in the hangar venue.

Wave-Gotik-Treffen (ger. das Treffen means "the meeting") is an annual world festival for "dark" music and arts in Leipzig, Germany. 150+ bands and artists from various backgrounds (Gothic rock, EBM, Industrial, Noise, Darkwave, Neofolk, Neoclassical, Medieval Music, Experimental, Gothic metal, Deathrock and Punk being examples) play at several venues throughout the city over 4 days on Whitsuntide. The festival also features several fairs with medieval, gothic and cultural merchandise.

Dark wave, also written as darkwave, is a music genre that began in the late 1970s, coinciding with the popularity of New Wave and post-punk. Building on those basic principles, dark wave added dark, introspective lyrics and an undertone of sorrow for some bands. In the 1980s, a subculture developed alongside dark wave music, whose members were called "wavers" or "dark wavers". The British post-punk groups that inspired Gothic rock provided initial impetus for the movement. As a result, dark wave is linked to the Goth subculture.
